Free Write Friday

Middle of Nowhere

I love Free Write Fridays. I am always curious to pull out a slip of paper from my can and set the timer for ten minutes just to see what I can create. This one was appropriate for today.

Middle of Nowhere

If I could be anywhere, I really would like to be in the middle of nowhere.  Away for just awhile to breathe the quiet.  A chance to do absolutely nothing.  No laundry.  No dishes.  There wouldn’t be the temptation to turn on the news and watch as the world crumbles below my feet.  Sadness would be gone.  Fears would halt and peace would reign.

My place could be a field full of tall, cool green grass.  I would fall down in the middle of it and just stare at the sky.  Perhaps I would move my arms and make grass angels.  I might even roll a bit and feel the Earth as she kept me down.

The middle of the nowhere could easily be in the middle of a calm lake stuck on a row boat with no oars to guide me back to shore.  I would wear a large brimmed sun hat and dangle my arms in the cool waters.  If I was lucky there would be good book to read, a sketch pad for drawing or a note book and pencils for writing.

A top of a mountain in a foreign land would be great for the middle of nowhere.  It would have to have many rocks for me to climb.  Wouldn’t it be great if there was a cool creek to frolic in?   I can just imagine climbing up the hills to view the valleys below.  A small rustic cabin to just sit and drink tea by a fire while the mountain winds blew.

A dark forest with yellow patches of light randomly striking through the trees would be a nice middle of nowhere.  A spot that is carpeted with thick damp moss is an interesting place to rest.  The feel of little bugs as they scurry over my bare feet.

Oh, I know.  On the shore of the sea.  Sitting in the sand as the waves crash near me and the salty wind would lift my hair back as I just stared out over the waters.  I could hug my knees close to my chest.  A bottle would wash up on the shore and I could read the note.  Even better it was full of wine.

Today I would love to be anywhere but here.  Somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
