We are doing some painting in our house. Quite a bit of painting and the most time consuming part of painting is not cutting in your edges, it’s not taking down photos and art work to patch up the holes, it’s deciding which color of white and blue to use. I never knew there were so many choices of white, blue I get, white, who could have guessed. I was eating breakfast with the kids looking over many paint chips and trying to decide what blue went with what white. I was reading the names out loud when it dawned on me, I could do this. I want to be a writer. Why not be the author who scripts the names for paint chips. I mean you have to start somewhere. I bet I would get half of the rejection letters and maybe start making a living or perhaps they could pay me in paint. Right about now, I’d take that.
I image the conversation at some swanky dinner party to go like this….
“So, Chris what is it that you do?” Snooty Voice
“Oh, why I am a writer.”
“Really? Have I read anything of yours?” Snooty Voice
“I don’t know, when was the last time you were at ACE Hardware?”
“Excuse me?”
“Maybe you heard of my latest, Burnt Sage? Then there is Dangerous Thunder and Dark Skies.”
“My, it sounds so mysterious.”
“Oh, you can say that again. I also did Jaydon Blue, Berrington Cobalt, and Sassy Summer Breeze.”
“Is that anything like those books that came out a few years ago and they made it into a movie?” Snooty Voice goes up and octave. Then she leans in and whispers, “S-E-X?”
“Oh, my goodness no, they are all about the fun one could have in every room of the house, not just the bedroom. I like to challenge myself with my writing.”
“Do you have anything more, more, shall we say every day, non-fiction perhaps?”
“Well, I think you might like Broken Eggshells or maybe one of my favorites, Sticky Glue.”
“No, I don’t think I would like those either. They sound so, so, oh what is the word I am looking for. Help me out, after all you are the writer.”
“I think you mean messy.”
“Yeees, quite.” Her snooty nose goes up into the air and I get the inspiration for my next masterpiece. It will be my first foreign manuscript, Verde La Boogerette.
Damn, I am good.
